Aam Aadmi Party and three municipal corporations have been approached for a response by the Delhi High Court to a plea that presents a policy guaranteeing free education, food, and medical aid to children up to 14 years of age.

Judges Rajendra Menon and V K Rao issued notices to the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of Delhi and three Municipal corporations seeking their response towards the petition, for which the response would be required soon by July 31, 2019.

The Plea was filed by Salek Chand Jain, a social worker, and argued about the non-existence of a scheme that provides free education to poor children up to 14 years of age in government aided and unaided schools.

He argued that last year, he raised questions for this issue in July 2018 and asked for his petition to be considered and take action within four months.

The petition informed and alleged that even after the efforts that the government makes, still, the situation towards the children studying in municipal and government schools has not improved.

The Petition also instructed the government to conduct a house-to-house survey for determining the number of children, between the age of 6 to 14, who are not enrolled in schools and ensure that proper education is provided to them.

The Petition also instructed to provide infrastructure in the government schools. The facilities include proper sanitation, computer labs, electricity, furniture, and other facilities.
