The Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar announced that the ministry will be filing a review petition with the Supreme Court for their rejection received regarding the faculty quota order issued by the HRD Ministry, originally issued by the Allahabad High Court.

The decision for filing a review petition originated by the continued agitation by the students and teachers after the SLP rejected of calculating the faculty posts department-wise instead of on the basis of taking university as a ‘unit.

“We will file a review petition soon and we will put our point strongly. We are confident there will be justice and reservation will continue as per the earlier system. The government will ensure that reservation for SC/ST/OBC is not hampered,” Javadekar added.

“Earlier, universities were treated as a unit for reservation which was the right thing and the SC/ST/OBC were treated in a just manner,” he said.

He confirmed that earlier Allahabad Court issued this order and then was approved by the Supreme Court which led to the reduction of seats for SC/ST/OBC.

“The Modi government filed an SLP against it and it was argued well but the Supreme Court did not accept the SLP,” he said.

The University Grants Commission has issued an official notice to all the higher educational institutes to “postpone the recruitment” until the reply for the SLP is received.

Last year, in March’ this order was approved by the UGC, originally issued by Allahabad High Court, considering the recruitment for the faculty posts will take place department-wise instead of on the basis of a university as a ‘unit’.
