The Punjab Government will launch a special recruitment drive to accommodate the vacancies for persons with disabilities in various departments of the state, an official spokesperson informed.

The Chief Minister of Punjab Amarinder Singh has instructed the Chief Secretary to accommodate the vacancies which were supposed to be filled by the persons with disabilities only in a specific time frame.

This decision was taken after Singh met the specially-abled international level Para-Badminton player Sanjeev Kumar on Thursday.

The CM has also instructed the Social Security Department to identify the vacancies in all departments, in order to initiate the process of the disabled accommodation.

As many as 577 disabled persons have already been provided employment by the state government, the spokesperson said.

The Punjab Government has decided to extend several benefits and facilities to the PWDs including 50 percent bus fare concession in government buses and free travel facility to the visually impaired people and a monthly pension of Rs 750, he added.
