It has been reported that the Punjab Government has taken various measures to check noise pollution around the examination centers during board exams. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh informed that the government will ensure that no loudspeakers at religious places and marriage venues will hamper the conduction of board exams, failing which strict action will be taken against violators.

“Noise pollution had been adversely impacting the quality of life of all sections of society, especially the students preparing for exams,” the Chief Minister said while addressing the call notice attention released by Aam Aadmi Party legislator Aman Arora in Vidhan Sabha.

The various measures taken by the government include issuing of guidelines and regulations for sound instruments been played around the centers in accordance with the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 and Punjab Instruments (Control of Noise) Act, 1956.

“The district police and civil administration, officers of the pollution control board and government officials had also been directed to ensure strict implementation of the guidelines,” Amarinder said.

It has been reported that the state government has already instructed Deputy Commissioners to pass an order to control noise pollution created through loudspeakers in gurudwaras/temples, DJ at marriages, etc.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) and Akal Takht, have also been reported to have instructed managers in Gurudwaras to keep the sound of loudspeakers low which stays within the premises of the gurudwara.
