A group of researchers at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal has developed a indigenous model which can predict the climate anomalies and report irregular weather changes in the country.

This statistical model also consists of a system which is capable to predict the summer temperature in India using the data collected from preceding winter of the year.

The research and development of this model is funded by the Department of Science And Technology (DST) under the leadership of Central Government of India.

The research for this model was conducted by Dr. Pankaj Kumar, assistant professor for Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at IISER Bhopal, along with his research scholar Aditya Kumar Dubey.

The model research paper and its result predictions, authored by Dr. Kumar and his research associates, have been recently published in the International Journal of Climatology.

The model is based on the studies of Indian weather parameters across the winter and summer seasons and how they have dynamically evolved over the past 70 years in relation to each other.

The researchers uses a comprehensive analysis of weather parameters like precipitation rate, sea surface temperatures, sea level pressure, zonal wind, average air temperatures and several other to predict the summer temperatures by this model.

According to the primary reports based on this model, IISER researchers have claimed that summer temperature have significantly increased over the past years, especially in north India.

The researchers have also said that the studies of South Indian summer temperatures have shown better results then that in Northern India. This is mostly due to the impact of lower sea surface temperature in coastal regions.

Dr. Kumar while explaining about the model said that such research studies are very important in current times when issues like global warming and climate change has became a major threat to the ecosystem.
