On Monday, Samsung India announced, that , as part of its ‘Samsung Star Scholar programme’ at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and National Institute of Technology (NIT) it has provided scholarships to 517 students.

In one of the statement the company said that to financially support less privileged students who qualify to these prestigious engineering colleges from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) schools are offered these scholarships every year.

For one academic year, for expenses related to tuition, examination, hostel and mess the programme offers a scholarship of up to Rs 2 lakh and every year up to 5 years it can be renewed .

This programme was started in the year 2016, which was named as Samsung Star Scholar programme, currently in its fifth year. This has  benefitted 650 JNV students.

Peter Rhee, who is the  Corporate Vice President and Deputy Managing Director, Samsung India stated that Samsung Star Scholar programme is one step towards the contribution in education and we are very much delighted to say that this year despite the challenges on the ground, we were successful to reach out to these gifted students.

Under this annual programme, meritorious students who are pursuing full-term B. Tech/Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.Tech) course at any IIT or NIT get the scholarships.

This year, to new applicants from JNVs have been granted 150 scholarships through the programme. Across the country, 85 students will begin their journey across 14 different IITs and  at 15 different NITs  65 students will take a step ahead.

As per the company, this year for 367 students who are currently pursuing full-term B.Tech/Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech) scholarship has been renewed for the coming next year.
