The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Punjab, has decided to introduce state learning achievement survey (SLAS) to evaluate the quality of education provided to students in state schools.

Examination for the same is scheduled to be conducted on February 1, for students of Class III, V, and VIII in four subjects namely Punjabi, Mathematics, Environmental Science and Social Science. In SLAS, the assessment will be done for Class II in Punjabi and Mathematics, for Class IV in Punjabi, Mathematics, and EVS and for Class VII in Punjabi, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. There will be a total of 30 questions in class II, 45 questions in Class IV and 60 questions in Class VII.

The survey has been conducted in accordance with NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and training), evaluating the performance at a whole, but not individually.

According to the government spokesperson, the survey will help in planning and interventions to improve student learning. Also, it will help evaluate the level of the education system.

In order to improve the quality of education Principles of the district of education and training (DIET) have been appointed as direct coordinators for monitoring survey while the district mentor, block mentor, district coordinator, block master trainer (BMT) and cluster master trainer (CMT) will be the field investigator for the survey.
