According to the recent survey reports conducted by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, it has been reported that 11,306 children aged between 6 years to 14 years are observed to have either been dropped out of school or were never enrolled in one.

According to the recent Unified District Information System for Education (U-DISE) Statistics recorded in 2016-17, it was reported that the number of children that were enrolled in schools in Delhi between Class I- VIII was 26,19,409.

The Data was collected by the team of Cluster Resource Coordinators and Special Training Centre teachers from December 28, 2018, to January 15, 2019. According to the officials, they reported that the data was collected by visiting various neighborhoods, communicating with parents, pradhans, and resident welfare associations.

The Data that reported that 11,306 children that were out of schools, revealed that 8,404 children aged between 6-10 years, while 2,902 children aged between 11-14. The Survey also revealed that the number of boys being out-of-school were more than girls being out-of-school. The district wise division reveals that the highest number of children being out of schools were from the Northwest section, which mostly covers areas such as Jahangirpuri, Bhalswa, Azadpur, Narela, Bawana and Holambi Kalan.

Other districts which have high numbers are Northeast, Southeast, and South at 1,551, 1,645 and 1,372, respectively. The reason behind this was pressure due to a large population. Looking at the reports that the survey revealed, the heads of the government or government-aided schools have been instructed to ensure enrollment of those children, “The first step is to get these children admitted to schools. There are Special Training Centres in about 560 schools to provide bridge courses to help them. The next step would be to identify how many of these children are dropouts and how many have never been enrolled,” the official said, he added that schools will have to ensure Aadhar Enrollment as well, so they are not left behind.
