‘Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign’ is launched by the University Grant Commission (UGC)  from 11 September 2019 to 02 October 2019 with the aim to eliminate the use of plastic and to dispose of plastic waste.

The Higher Education Institutions (HEI) have also provided detailed guidelines to achieving this objective more fastly.

Steps directs by UGC to the universities while collecting plastic waste

  1. All the students in every institution will do Shramdaan by picking up any plastic waste in their surroundings and bring them to a central location in the institution, starting from 11 September to 02 October 2019.
  2. The plastic waste will be collected and disposed off in consultation with District/Municipal/Gram Panchayat administration on October 02 so that it could be used for effective recycling or in road-construction or in cement industry.
  3. Universities and their affiliated colleges have to upload the information with regard to the number of students, teachers, staff, and officials who have participated in this campaign along with photographs and videos on the University Activity Monitoring Portal of UGC (www.ugc.ac.in/uamp/) under the event Swachhata Hi Sewa by 5 pm on October 02, 2019.
