The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Wednesday has announced the free laptop scheme wherein the Tamil Nadu government will provide students free laptops for the academic year 2018-19 to seven students at the state secretariat.
The government released a statement stating that it will provide free laptops to over 15.18 lakh students worth ₹1,340.44 crore.
The government running under the AIADMK government under the then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa first established the free laptop scheme in 2011.
Calculating from 2011 to now, it has been noticed that 37,88,528 students have been given free laptops worth ₹5,552.39 crore.
