The Government of Tamil Nadu has recently announced to launch a free-of-cost helpline number to offer career and mental counseling for NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).

This year, three student suicides allegedly connected to NEET have been reported from Tamil Nadu. So, Tamil Nadu’s state government has initiated a helpline to counsel students appearing for NEET.

A total of 1.12 lakh students have attended NEET this year. Thus, It is going to be a tedious process to receive the contact details from the National Testing Agency.

Health Minister MA Subramanian said that 330 professionals have been appointed to either call students preemptively or attend in-coming calls and assist them.

The health minister said that the professionals would communicate with each student and if any assistance is required it will be provided to them.

40 psychiatrists and psychologists have been appointed in Chennai for assisting the students. Chief Minister MK Stalin, Opposition Party leader Edapadi K Palanisamy and several other leaders have requested students to not take any hasty decision and take assistance from professionals.

Also, the “legal battle” against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) begins now. Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Sunday declared that a resolution against NEET will be passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday.

Third suicide death is also reported in vellore, Tamil Nadu. This is the third death related to the NEET exam in 2021. Earlier on Sunday, a 17-year-old student from Ariyalur committed suicide after getting depressed over not doing well in NEET. On Saturday, a few hours before the NEET exam, a student of Salem committed suicide due to fear of NEET.

Considering such problems, the Tamil Nadu government has started a 24/7 helpline to support the students in need of counseling. Here, 104 Tolls are available to talk to a psychiatrist assuring help to any student suffering from depression.
