The Tamil Nadu cabinet has approved the facility of a 7.5% quota in the existing reservation in medical UG courses for the students of state government higher secondary schools. The official said that this scheme also includes the seats in the private colleges, mentioning as “quota within quota”

This will be applicable for those clearing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Earlier, the state had sought the cancellation of the NEET exams which has resulted in vain. The proposal had support from various political parties and other students, especially from the rural areas.

This cabinet meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister K Palaniswami at the Secretariat. They decided to give the direct approval to six companies which plans to invest of Rs 5000 crore in Tamil Nadu.
