Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani has established five short term courses at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Panchkula through a video session from New Delhi.

The final and permanent campus building is under construction which is scheduled to get completed by June 2020. For the time being, until the final building gets ready, the temporary campus will be functional in Polytechnic-cum-Multi Skill Training Centre in Sector 26 Panchkula. The campus is constructed in collaboration with the Department of Technical Education, Government of Haryana.

Addressing the NIFT administration, Smriti Irani urged them to introduce special projects which involve the study of Suraj Kund craft mela and made up industry in Haryana. She stressed that the new enrollments will be able to understand the process of entrepreneurship along with learning new technology. She also appreciated the approval of Haryana Government for providing land and infrastructure. She also instructed to release brochures of the newly launched courses at the campus.

The one-year Certificate Programmes launched by the Textile Industry involves:

  • Fashion Clothing & Technology
  • Design Development for Indian Ethnic Wear
  • Fashion & Media Communication
  • Textile for Interiors & Fashion
  • Fashion Knitwear Production and Technology

Fashion Clothing and Technology

This programme involves the study of fashion, apparel design, construction, and technology. This programme has been constructed in such a way to help students who want to join the fashion industry.

Design Development for Indian Ethnic Wear

This Programme involves the study of dressmaking, value addition, pattern making and surface techniques for Indian ethnic wear. This Programme will help enhance the entrepreneurship skills in the field of fashion, bridal market, designer market.

Fashion and Media Communication

The Programme imparts knowledge of the fashion industry, fashion editing, styling, fashion ethics, and computer-aided designing and animation techniques and will be very helpful for the upcoming fashion industry.

Textile for Interiors and Fashion

This Programme is aimed at training and aspiring professionals for helping them pursue careers in the field of the apparel industry.

Fashion Knitwear Production and Technology

This Programme will impart training to prepare candidates for the knitwear garment industry, or knitwear fashion coordination merchandising and production.

The Programmes that are being offered does not have an age limit. For being eligible to apply for the course, the candidate is required to be 12th pass. The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of entrance examination followed by an interview by NIFT. The total number of students that will be provided admission is 30.

These programmes will provide experiential learning to the students through industry visits nearby for students to be well prepared before taking up a job.
