Central Trade Unions on Tuesday proposed to reschedule medical and engineering entrance examination to be held in the second week of January so as to avoid the clashing of dates with their two-day strike on January 8 and 9.

In September 2018, 10 Central Trade Unions have called for a two-day nationwide general strike on January 8 and 9, 2019 in protest of what they call the pro-corporate, anti-national and anti-people policies of the BJP-led NDA Government.

“In order to serve the interests of the multinational companies with Indian corporate, the present government is pursuing blatantly anti-people, anti-workers and anti-national policies at the cost of severely damaging the national economy and destroying its indigenous production and manufacturing capabilities. Such a regime must be defeated squarely to force the pro-people changes in policies on all fronts,” the CTUs said.

The CTUs wrote to the Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar asking for rescheduling of medical and engineering entrance examinations to avoid inconvenience.

“The preparations by the unions almost in all sectors of the economy are on. The strike notices are also being served by the respective unions to the concerned management. the issue is in the public domain for three months now,” the letter stated.

The Letter further added, “The CTUs got to know that the government has scheduled central joint entrance examination for selection in both medical and engineering courses in the second week of January.”

The CTUs explained that In order to avoid inconvenience to the aspiring students caused by the strike, the examination dates should be rescheduled.

The 10 CTUs that called the strike include INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, AICCTU, UTUC, TUCC, LPF, and SEWA.KKS ANU.
