The University Grants Commision (UGC) has recently directs nine state-run universities to implement quota for economically weaker sections (EWS) in admissions.

The authorities of these university said that they will take decision in consultation with the state government.

The nine Institutions are :

  1. Berhampur University
  2. Fakir Mohan University, Balasore
  3. North Orissa University, Baripada
  4. Ravenshaw University Cuttack
  5. Sambalpur University
  6. Utkal University
  7. VSS University of Technology, Burla
  8. National Law University, Cuttack
  9. Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya

The UGC has written letters to the vice-chancellors of these universities along with other educational institutions of the country to make the provision for reservations for EWS operational from this academic session.

The commision has also requested the universities to implement this instructions from the academic session 2019-2020 in the consultation with the state government.

A student belonging to EWS category will get 10% quota during admission.

Most of the national and some state institutes have already implemented the quota in their respective institutes.

Madhumita Das, vice chancellor of the Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, said, the admission process of this academic session has already been over and now the UGC has sent the letter for admission of EWS quota. We would consult with the state government and take decision regarding this,” she added.
