The central administrative body for all universities and colleges, The University Grant Commission or UGC has urged all the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to take care of the safety of their students, teachers, faculties, officers, staff members and all other stakeholders with top most priority in this tough times amid the COVID-19 pandemic and circumstances developed due to it.

The Commission has directed all the affiliated universities and colleges to form dedicated COVID-19 task forces, Start Helpline numbers and organize counselling sessions with experts to support all the affected stakeholders mentally and psychologically and ensure their overall well being.

The UGC has also requested the HEIs to organize virtual campaigns which will promote the COVID safety norms issued by the indian government like sanitisation, Use of face masks, Social distancing, etc. And will encourage the public to participate in the vaccination program.

The commission has also advised to constitute a well trained team in life skills using the volunteers from various national services like the NCC and NSS to provide help and support in the field.

It is strictly directed for all the HEIs to follow the advisories, guidelines and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) issued by the commission in order to limit the spread of the virus across the campuses and ensure the safety and health of everyone.

The UGC chairman, Prof. D.P. Singh in a letter to all the Vice-Chancellors addressed that, “To overcome this crisis, all the stakeholders of HEIs such as students, teachers, staff, officers and others including their family members, need to work collectively by addressing the numerous challenges in terms of physical and mental health, safety and overall well-being.”
