University Grants Commission (UGC), a renowned statutory body established under the Ministry of Human Resource Development by the government of India, offers a number of scholarships for students across the nation to help them pursue their education at a higher level.

A UGC scholarship majorly focuses on providing financial aid for college and university-level studies. Both meritorious and underserved students can avail these scholarships.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced dates for application submissions of four scholarship schemes for college and university students. The scheme is-

  • Ishan Uday Special Scholarship for North Eastern Region (UGC Ishan Uday or UGC NER), 
  • PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child (UGC single girl child scholarship), 
  • PG Scholarship for University Rank Holders, 
  •  PG Scholarship for SC, ST Students Pursuing Professional Courses.

Each UGC scholarship has its defined set of eligibility criteria to be fulfilled by the students that majorly centers around the age of the students, educational qualification, and the annual income of the family.

Also, there are some category-specific scholarships too that are being offered by UGC for students belonging to SC, ST, or OBC categories.

Special Scholarship Scheme- Ishan Uday for NER.

The scholarship is open for students having domicile of North Eastern Region (NER) state who have completed their class 12th or equivalent.

The student must have secured admission in a technical, professional, or general degree course at a recognized institute/college/university.

Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl child.

The applicant should be the single girl child of the family. The applicant must have taken admission in the first year of a regular, full-time PG course at a recognized university or college

Post Graduate Merit Scholarships for University Rank Holder

The scholarship is open for all. The students must be the first or second rank holders at the undergraduate level and enrolled in a full-time, regular master’s degree program at a recognized university/college.

Post Graduate Scholarships for Professional Courses for SC/ST Candidates

The scholarship is open for students who are pursuing the first year of the professional course at the postgraduate level.
