The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in a joint meeting with officials of Education and Skill Development ministries insisted to speed up the process for implementation of NEP 2020.
The Education Minister mentioned that new National Education Policy must not be only considered as a mere document, rather it must be treated as a guiding philosophy to enhance the indian education system.
Mr. Pradhan instructed other officials to promote awareness about this policy among stakeholders and make them realise its importance in creating a system with strong skill-education convergence.
The group of ministers also reviewed a detailed report on the progress made so far in the successful implementation of NEP. Based on this report, the Union Education Minister called for fast-tracking implementation.
He also remarked that the national education policy is designed with a futuristic vision to deliver holistic development for upcoming generation along with best academic knowledge.
The vision behind this new policy is to cover the entire spectrum of education and learning. The policy does not only limits to books, exams or marks but rather focuses more on practical learning, the minister added.
Along with the Union education minister, three state education ministers- Annapurna Devi, Subhas Sarkar and Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, also attended the review meeting which was held virtually.
The implementation of National Education Policy at state level is being monitored by the respective education ministries of that state. Thus, the concerned minister is responsible to update the progress with central government.
As per the conclusions of this review meeting, the status of progress for implementation is at different levels when compared between states. However, several steps are being taken towards this.
The new National Education Policy was approved by Union Cabinet last year which replaced the 34-year-old National education policy which was brought in force back in 1986.
The ultimate aim of new education policy is to transform the school and higher education system with revolutionary methods in order to make India a global superpower in terms of education.
