On 27th August 2018, Union Minister of State for External Affairs M.J. Akbar will launch the China Study Centre under the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) at 4:30 pm. The Union State Minister will deliver a public speech on “India Foreign Policy in the Twenty-First Century” on 28th August 2018 at 10:15 am at Valley View.

This move comes admits China’s growing influence in the geopolitical arena. Over the decades, China has grown rapidly economically, militarily strong. India concerns over China’s aggressive hold around the neighborhood and the Indian subcontinent. In recent times, the relations between India and China had been abstaining significantly after the Doklam disputes in the northeast region of India. To read the psychological behavior behind China’s influencing nature, India needs a researcher to analysis the motive behind every move by China.

Speaking to the press media on Saturday Arvind Kumar, HOD of Geopolitics and International Relations, MAHE, said, “The launch of the China Study Centre is timely and relevant, especially in the context of changing dynamics of geopolitics. India requires a number of specialists on China who can understand their intentions, goals and behavioral patterns. The centre would strive to build capacity and create critical mass of good researchers and analysts.”

Giving details of the centre, he said that it would focus on creating a repository of knowledge on China from a multifaceted dimension with a concentration on politics, economics, commerce, society, culture, science and technology. “The main objective of the centre is to establish a network of young analysts with holistic knowledge on China,” he added.
