The University of Mumbai has extended the deadline for the submission of admission forms by five days.  When the earlier announced due date was June 21, 2.95 lakh had already applied for 43 courses offered by the university. Even though, the university makes a move of extension following the late declaration of Higher Secondary Certificate exams’ results, so that more candidates can complete the application process.

In another step, the university allows diploma holders to pursue Bachelors of Mass Media (BMM) course from this year. Earlier, they could only pursue Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) course.

The university is expected to announce the first merit list by June 24.

Like the past years, most applicants applied for- over 2.71 lakh – the commerce courses, 74000 for Bachelor of Science (BSc) and 58000 for humanities courses. The trend shows that self-financed courses continue to be popular.

“For students taking up a course, it is not merely about placements. They seem to be taking up more trade-specific courses. The Bachelor’s  (degree) in Financial Markets, Bachelor’s (degree) in Finance and Investments and BSc Biotechnology are some of the courses that have seen more takers in the past couple of years, ” said Hemlata Bagla, Principal of KC College, Churchgate,
