Albert Einstein once said, “It’s a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.” Most of us have a background of formal education, be it from any board- CBSE, ICSE, International Baccalaureate or State/National Board. Although this type of education provides us with a sense of security to earn a living, we often lose our creativity, curiosity, innovative drive and the drive of free spirit, which leaves loopholes in our potential success.

We learn unnecessary and outdated material. Most of what we study is based on plausible theories and call for rote learning and minimum exposure to what will really benefit us in real life. For example, people from all walks of life require the knowledge of banking procedures and related topics but unless one takes up commerce related subjects in school, they aren’t even taught how banking works.

More often, our curriculum pushes us to do monotonous jobs which really don’t give us motivation to innovate. If we are losing out on so much, we should at least know our options.

Although the concept of Home-schooling has been working pretty well since ages internationally, we have seen less acceptance in India and even less in Jaipur but recently, a newer concept called ‘Unschooling’ is being accepted all over. The concept basically revolves around the method of life learning wherein the learner decides what to learn. There is no curriculum and no time restrains. This concept is revolutionary because one gets to do what they want to and due to high interest in those particular subjects, the being’s great success is inevitable. For example, if a person is made to study quantum physics without their interest, they might take 1,2 or even 3 years to learn it but a being with interest might complete it in a few months.

Learning by doing is the concept unschooling revolves around. Because the individual is asked to make decisions as per his/her will, their free spirit does not get suppressed. Moreover, they become better decision-makers. Everything they learn is according to their wish and can be discontinued with their will. What better way to learn! These pupil can be Film-making aspirants, Stage Artists, Animators,or even scientists.

This unconventional schooling is a new ray of hope for those who don’t want to entangle in the conventional ones. It is hoped that it will gather more recognition and acceptability in the near future.
