The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) in an attempt to close loopholes in the selection process has decided to prepare a merit list. This list of direct recruitment exams will be prepared by assigning 50% weightage to marks scored by candidates in the screening test and 50% in the interview.

The change is that until now, candidates were selected on the basis of marks scored in personality tests. weightage was given to screening test scores so that undeserving students could be filtered out.

UPPSC is responsible for conducting these direct recruitment exams for selecting AYUSH doctors/lecturers in the state’s medical colleges, engineers, doctors and assistant directors among other departments of state government. As per the previous norms, screenings are only conducted if posts are equal to or more than 50 and there are more than 1000 applications for the same.

The process this time, as told by officials, reeked of alleged discrepancies in direct recruitments. This was followed by the formation of a high-level committee which was set up to review the exam process. In consultation with the officers of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Delhi , the panel recommended these changes.

“As per the decision, the screening test will cease to exist merely as a qualification exam and its marks will also be taken into account with that of interviews for direct recruitment. The amendments in the selection process will come into effect with the issue of regulation by the state government,” said UPSC Secretary, Jagdish. He also added that the commision as well approved these changes and forwarded it to the state government for formal completion and paperwork.
