Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will commence the online-registration process for civil services preliminary exams from today February 19, 2019, at the official website, for which the link is given below:

The Preliminary Examination is scheduled to be conducted on June 2, 2019. The Main examination for the Civil Service Examination is scheduled to be conducted on September 20, 2019. Also, the main examination for UPSC Indian Forest Service (IFS) is scheduled to be conducted on December 1, 2019.

For being eligible to appear for the preliminary examination, the candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from any University imposed under Act of the Central or State Legislature in India established by an Act of Parliament or holds an equivalent qualification for appearing.

The Age limit for appearing for the examination has been set to be from 21 years to 39 years of age, relaxation is available for reserved category.

The Preliminary examination consists of two papers I and II.

Under the objective section, multiple choice questions are asked carrying total marks of 400. In the second paper of general studies, a minimum 33% percentage is required to clear.

Negative marks are also alloted for every wrong answer which is set to be one-third of the marks allocated to that particular question. The Question paper will consist of questions related to 7 categories namely:

  • History and Culture
  • Geography
  • Indian Politics
  • Indian Economy
  • Environment and Ecology
  • Current events of National and International Importance

While registration of the candidate, a registration number will be generated, after which the candidate is required to pay the application fee and upload the scanned photograph and signature.

The Selection process involves three-levels namely preliminary, mains, and interview.
