The Xavier Labour Research Institute Jamshedpur is all set to conduct ‘‘2nd Social Entrepreneurship Conclave’ on 9th – 10th February 2019 at the XLRI Jamshedpur campus itself. The conference will be hosted by the Social Initiative Group for Managerial Assistance (SIGMA), XLRI in association with Tata Steel.
The Theme for this year’s conference is ‘Entrepreneurship for Urban Sustainability’. This conference aims to bring academics and industry closer, by gathering industry stalwarts, practitioners and academicians to discuss relevant topics. The conference is scheduled to be attended by fifteen renowned practicing social entrepreneurs in fields of energy, education, agriculture, and market-linkages to discuss ideas and various themes such as urban governance, initiatives for livelihood assistance, how to enable education and health for all, waste and pollution management, and protecting the core environment.
Attendees at the conference also included speakers namely Dr. Jagan Shah, Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Sourav Roy (Chief, CSR, Tata Steel), Arun Krishnamurthy (Founder, Environmentalist Foundation of India), Barsha Poricha (Deputy Team Lead, Centre for Urban & Regional Excellence), Krishnavatar Sharma (Co-founder & Programme Director, Aajeevika Bureau), Poornima Dore (Head- Data Driven Governance, TATA Trusts), Pratima Joshi (Executive Director, Shelter Associates), Pritha Dutt (Director and Co-Founder, Empower Pragati), Saransh Vaswani (Director, Saajha), Sophie Charrois (Vice President, Oikos International) and others.
Addressing the conference f. Madhukar Shukla, Chairperson, Fr Arrupe Center for Ecology & Sustainability (FACES), XLRI and the coordinator for the conference said, “Social entrepreneurship, which aims at development and implementation of innovative ideas in order to improve the social, cultural or environmental landscape, is the need of the hour. It is all about recognizing the social problems and achieving a social change by employing entrepreneurial principles, processes, and operations. The two-fold aim of sustainability and societal impact can be achieved through synergistic execution, for which open communication and sharing of ideas is critical. This year’s conclave would be attended by budding social entrepreneurs and students. XLRI hopes to provide the ideal platform for the exchange of ideas, problems and their solutions, among the speakers and the attendants by means of various interactive sessions in the conclave.”
