90th Oscar Nominations

With 9 decades of exceptional art, the Oscar comes again to gift the worlds best the recognition they deserve. Hard work, struggle, and pure dedication stood out for 90 years conquering every land and field they stepped into and now is the time of the year to thank and appreciate the ones who gave it there all to be on the grand stage they ever dreamed of. The Oscar nominations mark the road to up to that journey.

The Academy initially made the announcement that the nominations would be expected on 23rd January when they shared pictures from the shoot on their official Instagram post. The nominations were to be made by huge industry names such as Rosario Dawson, Rebel Willson, Priyanka Chopra, Michelle Yeoh, Jim Parsons and Michelle Rodriguez and the list goes on.

The nominations were pretty close to the ones expected after the golden globe wins. Expected names were classics such as Lady Bird, Get Out, Three Billboards outside Ebbing, MissouriThree Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri scored seven nominations including Original Screenplay, Actress in a Leading Role and Best Picture. But a battle is set as Shape of water which bagged 13 nominations. Nolan’s masterpiece Dunkirk is no far away with 8 nominations chiefly in technical categories but also for best picture and director.

Racial thriller Get Out directed by Jordan Peele scored 4 nominations. Women outshone the event with names such as Greta Gerwig becoming the fifth woman director to score an Oscar nomination in the past 90 years. Her movie The Lady Bird also bagged 4 nominations.

The 90th Academy awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Not exactly an easy thing for a man to achieve two times in a row especially on this big a stage. Wonder what Matt Damon has up his sleeve this time as their bitter hilarious feud continues on. The show will take place on the 4th of March at Hollywood.
