We recently reported that director Mira Nair had wrapped up the Lucknow schedule of her upcoming series A Suitable Boy. Now we have learnt that actor Aamir Bashir, who is currently receiving applause for playing Bhaaisaab in Inside Edge 2, has been roped in for the BBC show. According to a report in Mid Day, the actor will play the role of the pious Nawab Sahib of Baitar.

Bashir, whose directorial Harud is one of the only three films to win National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Urdu, is extremely happy to collaborate with Nair. He said, “To be a small part in Vikram Seth’s magnum opus, a piece of literature that drew comparisons with the works of Leo Tolstoy, is an honour. That Mira, who I have always admired as a filmmaker, found me worthy enough to play the Nawab of Baitar is a privilege.”

Actor Vinay Pathak, who recently appeared in Seema Pahwa’s directorial debut Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi, will also be seen in the show. He will play the role of Agarwal, the conservative Home Minister of Purva Pradesh. Looking forward to reuniting with Nair, Pathak said, “Mira has a keen eye for the conflict in the story, but the most wonderful [aspect] is the way she works with actors. I have done one short film with her before, and can’t wait to get back in the same room as her.”

Featuring an ensemble cast of actors Tabu, Ishaan Khatter, Ram Kapoor, Tanya Maniktala, Shefali Shah, Rasika Duggal and others, A Suitable Boy is expected to go on air in June next year.
