As the year comes to an end, it’s time to take a look back and analyze the year. Hindi film industry gave us so much to remember this year, including ‘Padmavat’, ‘Sanju’, ‘Stree’, ‘Andhadhun’ and others but there were some who let us down. This was the year of lots of ups and downs for Hindi film industry. Khan’s gave some biggest flops of the year and newbies like Ishaan Khattar surprised everyone with their film’s performance.

Rajkummar Rao

‘Stree’ actor reached a new level of stardom with this film, but he gave two more movies this year, which could not create the type of hype, usually expected from Rao.

‘Omerta’ which was released on 4th May this year, was also screened at the 42nd annual Toronto International Film Festival, the Mumbai Film Festival, Florence Film Festival, Hong Kong International Film Festival, and the Busan International Film Festival. The night if New York Indian Film Festival was closed by ‘Omerta’.

In spite of getting positive reviews from the critics, the film did not perform well at the Box Office.

The audience had high hopes from Rajkummar Rao, Anil Kapoor, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer ‘Fanney Khan’ also but the film did not live up to the expectations and fell flat at the Box Office.

The viewers did not like the romantic chemistry between Rao and Rai. The storyline didn’t have a strong impact on the audience as well. The film closed at Rs 16.56 crore total Box Office collection, against the producing cost of Rs 38 crore.

Saif Ali Khan

Two Bollywood movies were released starring Saif in lead roles, but only one of them gave the expected result. Saif’s ‘Baazaar’ was critically and commercially successful but ‘Kaalakaandi’ turned out to be a big disappointment for the actor. The off the beat movie was not well received and managed to collect Rs 6.32 crore, which is even less than half of his total making cost, Rs 16 crore.

Siddharth Malhotra

Malhotra had only one shot this year but blew it away. ‘Aiyaary’ also starred noted actor Manoj Bajpayee, Rakul Preet Singh and others.

The film was made at the expense of Rs 65 crore but only managed to collect Rs 29.23 crore at the Box Office. The film had high hopes due to the storyline based on the Indian Army and the scam related to it. But the patriotic card didn’t go well and the audience was not impressed by it.

Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan

Khan broke his own record and filmmaker’s belief that any movie can become a blockbuster if Mr. Perfectionist is starred in it. This was the trend for several years until 2018. Amitabh Bachchan was also a part of one of the biggest flop of all times.

The film was claimed to be the most expensive Hindi film of all times. It was made on the budget of Rs 335 crore, supposedly. But even after getting the fourth biggest opening weekend and the highest number of screen, which was 7000 across the globe, the film collected Rs 275 crore. Though the film’s collection is much more than all the flop films together it could not even make it up to its production cost.

Salman Khan

Bhai Jaan came with a bang on eid like every other assuming that this year also he will have the last laugh but the audience couldn’t agree less. The multi starrer ‘Race 3’ had a list of star cast but all turned to be useless just like the story. The film was a Box Office hit but received negative reviews from the critics.

The only reason behind the commercial success of the film was Salman’s stardom.

Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay made a comeback as a lead actor with this film which did not go well among the audience and critics. It also starred Jimmy Shergill, Mahi Gill, and Chitrangada Singh.

The irony is, the film made on Dutt’s life ‘Sanju’ was also released this year and became the second highest grossing film of the year and his the only film in 2018, in which he was starred turned out to be critically and commercially a flop.
