Bollywood actor Aamir Khan says that the artists have a responsibility to highlights the gender issues. As we have seen recently that the sexual harassment scandals rock the Hollywood and the actor Aamir Khan says that the creative people have an important role in changing the mindsets of the people on the topic of the gender issues.
Recently, ‘Dangal’ and ‘Secret Superstar’ actress Zaira Wasim who has focused on the female empowerment in her recently released movies and he thinks that the issue is directly linked to the patriarchy. Aamir Khan says that he thinks that the sexual harassment is a very sad thing to happen to anyone. Moreover, he says that it is irrespective of what your sex is because the sexual harassment is just not on that.
He clarified that such cases do not happen only in the world of movies but it does happen in the other areas too. He says that he clearly understands that the people are free to be romantically involved with whosoever they wish to like. But he feels that no one has a right to put pressure on a person to being with them physically. He believes that it does not happens only in the films but it happens in all walks of life and it is something which is very unfortunate.
The New York Times and The New Yorkers took the lid off the Weinstein’s history of the sexual abuse and that has really encouraged the prominent women such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan just to open up with the disgraced producers. This scandal has led to the exposing of the other Hollywood heavyweights.
Aamir Khan has said that the sexual harassment should not be looked into the isolation as it is connected to the larger issues of how the gender roles have been defined in the society. He also feels that the creative people have an important role to play in the changing such perspectives. This issue is a really a larger issue but this is not only in India but it is all over the world and this thinking of patriarchy that men are stronger or are more important that leads to the various kind of things and he believes that sexual harassment is one of them.
The people who are creative does not have a role to play in showcasing men and women in a manner that influences the people in right way and Aamir Khan does believe that as an individual they are having some sort of responsibility in that way. Most of his movie have even dealt with the issues of empowerment.
Earlier, in the show ‘Satyamev Jayate’, which was hosted by Aamir Khan even in that show he highlighted the issues that women usually face in India. In his recently released movie ‘Secret Superstar’ he has taken a little step forward by portraying a girl who seeks for her independence and she helps her mother to do the same. He just hopes that the things will change in the future for the better however, he knows really well that it will take time both for the people as well as for the society to change.
Issues on the women is a really a big canvas. He says that when we look at the women’s issue then we are not only talking about the foeticide and the domestic violence, which are definitely a huge issue. But he says that even in our day-day to life women sometimes find that they are not in the possession of their own decisions. A woman is not only a sexually harassed or face the domestic violence, but besides this, there are a lot of many things that are a host of the other issues.
There are still some women who want to be with a man who wants to control her and that is equally disturbing and this more about the fundamental independence of a person and that is irrespective of what your sex is. Actress Zaira Wasim seems that she is in the risky business ventures in the formula-driven film industry. As far as actor Aamir Khan is concerned he is rewriting the rules of the box office.
Actor Aamir Khan has been considered as a marketing genius in the Bollywood as none of his movies in the last few years has failed at the Box office. On this, Aamir Khan said that it is all about that how you boiled down to how good a story was. Whenever he selects the movie he never thinks about the box office collections or about the audience’s reaction and he is reacting to this personally. He started with the movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’ and that was the top hit of that year and that movie did a huge business at that time.
