The Hindi film director and producer Aanand L Rai says that there should not be any hesitation in showing the real issues in the films. Aanand is very well known for the romantic-comedy movies like ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, ‘Raanjhanaa’. His recent movie was a Tanu Weds Manu: Returns featuring Kangana Ranaut in a double role along with R. Madhavan, Deepak Dobriyal, Swara Bhaskar, and Jimmy Shergill.
Currently, Aanand L. Rai is gearing up for his upcoming Bollywood drama movie titled ‘Shubh Manglam Saavdhan‘, which is directed by R.S. Prasanna and produced by Aanand L Rai. The film features Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role. The movie will be focusing on the erectile dysfunction how it brings changes to his family life. While Bhumi Pednekar will play his on-screen love. This is the second movie when both the actors (Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar) are coming back together, after the National- Award winning movie title ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’.
About his upcoming movie, Aanand L. Rai says there should not be any reservations to bring the fore stories that are compelling. He says, “‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ is a very challenging and entertaining film for me, it’s a gutsy film. It touches a subject that you can’t talk in open, but I am showing it in a way that people can talk about it openly.”
Aanand L. Rai says that the film which talks on the bold subjects should be presented in an interesting and entertaining way so that the movie can be treated as a family entertainer. He says, “There should be no hesitation (to present such stories) as that is how we will grow and progress. When I see Shoojit Sircar making ‘Piku’ or ‘Vicky Donor’, I like it. I feel we should enjoy such cinema more. It should be treated as a family film, treat it like a Sooraj Barjatya film.”
He is keen to play with stories that are based on real life incidents, on the big screen. Aanand says. “As a student of cinema and (a) part of this film industry, I take the responsibility to make certain kind of films in a certain way, whether as a director or producer. It is high time we talk about things.”
In his upcoming movie “Shubh Manglam Savdhan”, Bhumi Pednekar will be seen portraying the role of a simple girl with middle-class values, on the other hand, Ayushmann Khurrana will be portraying the character of a marketing professional. The duo is set to have an arranged marriage but soon Bhumi’s family come to know about Mudit’s sexual dysfunction.
About this Aanand L. Rai says, “I am thankful for the success that I have achieved in the industry due to the audience. I come from a middle class family, but I will not use small town as a cliched in films, I will use it in a progressive way and will only enhance it in a certain way.” He added, “Today middle class people have also grown, what we used to call conservative have grown and they don’t shy away from talking about things.”
“Shubh Mangal Saavdhan” is all set to release on September 1.
