Disney is a company that looks to explore different stories and cultures. Their next target is India, a country that has one of the most beautiful cultures ever seen. To dive deep into it, Disney is making their next film, titled Spin.
A Disney Channel Original film, it will see Bollywood actor, Abhay Deol acting in it, along with UK’s Meera Syal. Manjari Makijany, who has helmed the upcoming Netflix film, Dessert Dolphin is going to direct the movie.
The film will feature actor, Avantika Vandanapu in the lead. She’ll essay the role of Indian-American teen, Rhea who founds that she loves creating DJ mixes. Eventually, she finds herself making mixes, combining elements of Indian heritage and the world around her.
While talking about the film, director, Manjari said that it provides her a chance to tell the story of her culture, in an authentic way. She further said :
“The team at Disney is committed and passionate about representation and have been extremely supportive of my vision from casting a talented Indian actor such as Abhay Deol and the fantastic Meera Syal to smaller details in the story that reflect the culture.”
Writers, Carley Steiner and John A.Cagan have written the film’s script, with Zanne Devine serving as its executive producer.
Praising the executive producer, Zanne, Manjari further said that she is proud of a global cast for the film. The conscious decision to include people of different colors at the leadership level helped them to tell the stories they want, added Manjari.
Other actors forming the part of the film are Aryan Simhadri, Michael Bishop, Jahbril Cook, Kerri Medders, and Anna Cathcart.
Meanwhile, Abhay Deol will play the role of Rhea’s father in the film, Arvind. While Meera Syal will play Rhea’s grandmother.
