The COVID-19 virus is more dangerous than one can possibly think. It has claimed many lives and continues to do so. On Tuesday morning, it claimed the life of veteran actor, Ashalata Wabgaonkar. She had contracted the virus on Sept 15, whilst shooting for her show, ‘Aai Majhi Kalubai’. The news of her demise was shared on Twitter, by the former chief minister of Goa, Digambar Kamat.
Mr. Kamat gave his condolences to her, in his tweet and tweeted :
Deeply pained by the passing away of acclaimed Goan Artist Ashalata Wabgaonkar. Her splendid performances in theatre & films will keep inspiring the generations to come. My condolences to her family & fans. May her soul rest in peace. pic.twitter.com/HVGOnDUA8x

Actor and Activist, Renuka Sahane also shared her condolences on Twitter. She wrote the tweet in Marathi, which translated as, “Extremely kind, loving, sensitive, great artist. Peace be upon the soul of Ashalata Tai, who always blessed me by saying ‘Baby’. A heartfelt tribute.”
Ashalata Wabgaonkar was a seasoned actor. She acted in over 100 Marathi films, did several Marathi and Konkani plays. While in Hindi cinema, she made her debut in 1980, with Basu Chatterjee directed, Apne Paraye. For that film, she received a nomination for the best- supporting actress at the Filmfare awards.
Further, she starred in other Hindi films such as Woh Saat Din, Namak Halaal, Shaukeen, Ahista Ahista, Ankush, Coolie, Sadma, and Ghayal.
Now, no more, may she rest in peace.
