After trying his hands at photography and theater, Boman Irani moved to films with his first film Darna Mana Hai releasing in 2003. The part was small but significant and earned him acclaim. He then received attention for his role in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S and also acted in its sequel. Both the roles brought him wide acclaim and he soon carved a niche for himself.

Now Boman is going to try his hands at a different aspect of film making. He will be going behind the camera and will don the director’s hat. While not much is known about his directorial debut project, the actor has revealed that it would be a father-son story.

Besides directing, the 60-year old will also act in this movie. Talking about the cast of the film, the actor told Hindustan Times that he would like to cast his friends from the industry but he can not say anything right now. “The process is on and I must admit that getting the right actors is quite a difficult job. First the script took time and now this…We’re trying to close it by the end of this year.” he said.

When asked if his experience as a film actor in the industry made it easier for him to make his directorial debut when compared to an outsider, Boman said it is not easy. But he did agree that being part of the industry he had access which an outsider might not have. “Nothing is easier in this world. It’s your work which will take you ahead. Yes, being part of the industry would let me reach out to people easily unlike someone who is new,” he said.

On the work front, Boman Irani has had two recent releases. Made In China which stars Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy was released last week while Drive which stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez started streaming on Netflix on 1 November. He will next be seen in Kabir Khan’s 83 based on India’s victory of the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
