Akshay Kumar, who introduced the horror comedy genre to the film industry with ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ will be back to the same after 12 years. This upcoming horror comedy will be directed by Raghava Lawrence.

The last film of this genre was Dinesh Vijan’s ‘Stree‘ which became one of the biggest hit and highest grossing movies. The film was made on a very low budget and managed to collect several times of its production cost.

According to a source close to the development, the yet-untitled film is loosely based on the director’s successful Tamil franchise, ‘Kanchana’. “It’s not a straight remake, the basic premise will draw references from two films, ‘Muni’and ‘Kanchana’, so it’s more like two films clubbed in one to create double the impact. The team has been working on the script for over six months and has added several new dimensions to the original film.”

He further added that the film will tell the story of a man, played by Akshay, who is so afraid of ghosts that he refuses to step out of his house after sundown. The story takes an interesting twist when he encounters a transgender ghost.

Akshay Kumar’s untitled film will probably go on floors by mid-April. It will be shot in the period of 60-70 days between April and July and might get a 2020 release date.

Akshay Kumar recently wrapped up the shooting of ‘Mission Mangal’ with Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, and Kirti Kulhari. The film explores the story of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientists who were the part of the Mars Orbiter Mission. It will release on Independence day this year. Beside this, Akshay will also be seen in Karan Johar’s ‘Good News’ co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh.
