Actor Akshay Kumar is on cloud nine, as his 18th wedding anniversary is approaching he couldn’t have asked for a better gift. His first Marathi feature presentation, ‘Chumbak‘ that bears his mother’s name in the production section, won several awards at the 17th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF).

‘Chumbak’ was directed by Sandeep Modi, and Co-produced by Naren Kumar received the Best Film Award in Marathi Cinema Competition category. Swanand Kirkire took home the Best Actor Award and the award for the Best Screenplay.

The Pune International Film Festival promotes a healthy film culture in the vibrant young city, by giving film lovers access to the best in Indian and global cinema. It is now recognized as a Government of Maharashtra Festival and is the only international platform which gives recognization to Marathi cinema.

Akshay while talking to a leading daily revealed, “This film bears my mother Aruna Bhatia’s name in the producer’s space. She is very happy about this award and I feel extremely proud. For me, this was a simple film which touched my heart. I decided to make my debut in Marathi cinema with this film. I’m very happy for Swanand who writes well and acts well, too. We have won three awards in major categories. I could not have asked for a better gift for my wedding anniversary.”
