This year is hard, filled with challenges, mainly because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a year that saw films getting postponed, Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi becomes the victim again. It will not release on Diwali. The makers of the film had earlier announced in June, that it will come out on Diwali.

Even though the Union Home Ministry has allowed multiplexes and theatres to reopen from October 15, the film is delayed. Cinema chains will run on a 50 percent capacity, but this has not lured the film’s producer, Reliance Entertainment.

On Thursday, the CEO of Reliance Entertainment Group, Sibashish Sarkar said that even though, he is happy with the government’s decision, there is uncertainty. This uncertainty means it is not feasible for them to release the film on Diwali.

He talked to PTI and said :

“One thing is clear, we are not releasing any film on Diwali. No other decision has been taken. It is not possible to release a film on Diwali now. As of now, all cinema houses are not opening from October 15. Even if it opens on November 1, how can you release a film in 10 or 15 days notice period?”

As it again gets delayed, the makers will have to decide a new release date for it, again. Speaking on this, Sibashish said, “We are not sure whether we will change both Sooryavanshi or 83 or we will just shift one film. It is definitely clear December to March is the time (to release films), this is the realistic timeline.”

While Sooryavanshi was to come out on Diwali, another Reliance Entertainment film, Kabir Khan directed, 83 was to come out on Christmas. That film, too will not be released this year now. Sooryavanshi’s original release date was March 24.

The Akshay Kumar starrer is directed by Rohit Shetty and also stars Katrina Kaif. It will also feature actors, Ajay Devgn, and Ranveer Singh.

A part of Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, the film is the third in the universe. The other two before it was, Singham and Simmba. Producing the film apart from Reliance is Rohit Shetty Picturez along with Dharma Productions and Cape Of Good Films.

There is no other option but to wait for the action-flick now. The pandemic has created a truly murky atmosphere. We hope, that the film gets a good release, next year.
