Well, the wait is now over for the fans and admirers as the national award winning director has announced his next film that is titled “Gangubai Kathiawadi”. The film stars Alia Bhatt in lead role and is slated to release on September 11 next year. According to a tweet by film analyst Taran Adarsh, the film will be produced by Bhansali Productions in collaboration with Jayantilal Gada’s PEN India Ltd.

The last film of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat which came in January last year was a mega hit. The film that starred Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles was initially scheduled to be released in December, 2017 but was delayed after it ran into controversies. The film turned out to be a blockbuster, nonetheless and also went on to win several awards.

On the other hand, Alia Bhatt will next be seen in Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra’, Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Sadak 2’ and Karan Johar’s ‘Takht’. Reports are doing the rounds that she will be starring in Ashwini Iyer Tiwari’s next film based on Infosys co-founder NR Narayan Murthy and his wife Sudha Murthy. She was last seen in Kalank and Gully Boy both of which were released in 2019. The latter was a commercial and critical success and earned Bhatt a huge appreciation from the critics and masses alike.

Gangubai Kathiawadi hailed from the underworld and was a brothel owner in Kamthipura. Sold into prostitution by her husband, Gagubai refused to bow down and became a force to reckon with.
