The Rabindra Bharati University is one of the most prominent university of Arts which was established in India in 1961. The faculty was founded to mark the 100th year anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore. The university, located in Kolkata had recently decided to honor some of the most important personalities of India in the field of humanities. On the 8th of May, 2018, during the annual convocation of the university body, the vice-chancellor Sabyasachi Bash Ray Chaudhury was expected to give out the famed Doctor of Letters honorary degree onto four of some very well-known citizens of India.

Famous vocalist Pandit Amiyaranjan Bandopadhyay, renowned writer Nabanita Deb Sen, famed artist sculptor Jatin Das and the Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan were set to receive the degree this May by the Vice-Chancellor himself. However, due to his film schedule clashing with the date of the convocation, actor Amitabh Bachchan has been regretfully removed from the list of recipients. Amitabh’s movie Tamil Nesan, which comes out later this year, requires constant attention from the actor and Mr. Bachchan could not possibly have been able to afford to miss the shooting.

Even though many of the students of the Indian varsity as well as other online netizens have shown their support towards Amitabh Bachchan; praising his love and commitment towards his acting career, the Rabindra Bharati University has finally published a statement denying the conferment of the honorary degree to Amitabh this year.
