Amitabh Bachchan raises awareness about cyclone Gaja through his video

On November 15, 2018, a cyclone named Gaja, made landfall in South India and killed 63 people. Approximately 3.7 lakh people had to flee from their homes in order to save their lives and about 3.4 lakh homes have been destroyed by the cyclone. The natural calamity brought a disaster which cannot be forgotten soon.

Amitabh Bachchan recently raised an awareness program about the cyclone and the extent of its damage on the people of South India. He shot a video of himself and shared some facts and figures about the disaster and asked people to help in any way possible.

Between 60-80% of the coconut trees in the region have been fallen, which contribute about a quarter of India’s major share of coconut production.

At the time of landfall of the cyclone, heavy winds of about 100-120 Kilometer per hour speed were experienced. The damage in the region and the sorrow of the people who lost their homes and loved ones is beyond imagination.

State and central government send funds and relief material. Volunteers and NGO across the country had also done their share. Many film celebrities came out in support and helped the victims financially and morally.

The storm which started forming on November 5 over the Gulf of Thailand, intensified to a cyclonic storm on November 11, Gaja hit South India on November 15.
