Anubhav Sinha’s directorial political thriller Anek revolves around an under cop agent whose mission is to restore peace.

STORYLINE OF ‘ANEK’

The story follows Joshua, a fierce under cop agent whose aim is to unite the country. His mission to execute a peace accord with Tiger Sangha, the head of a resistance militant group in the North East, creates lots of challenges in his path. Meanwhile, on this mission, Joshua meets Aido, played by Andrea Kevichusa, featuring as his love interest.

Ayushmann Khurrana was seen donned in cargos and zippers, looking uber-smart, nailing his chiseled physique. However, he never gets the film himself to develop any connection with the audience due to the highly convoluted plot. Meanwhile, Andrea Kevichüsa, a model from Nagaland, playing Ayushmann’s love interest perfectly fits into the character physically but lacks acting abilities in scenes that require drama and emotions.

On the other hand, Manoj Pahwa and Kumud Mishra, playing the politicians, did justice to their characters. The duo managed to create a sinister aura around them throughout the film.

Loitongbam Dorendra Singh, as Tiger Sanga, also played his part really well. JD Chakravarthy left a great impact on the viewers as he got a chance to portray his acting chops in a couple of important scenes.

Ayushmann Khurrana starrer action drama Anek has a poor start at the box office. The film released on May 27, minted around ₹1.75 crores on the first day.

According to the Box Office India, “Anek has collected poorly on the first day with collections set to be around 1.75 crore nett. There was faster movement in the evening and night shows but not the type suggesting something spectacular on Saturday which the film will need if it is to go anywhere. There have been dull openings post the pandemic but this is one of the lowest out of all the major releases.”

Anek marks the second collaboration between Ayushmann Khurrana and Anubhav Sinha after Article 15. The film did ₹100 crore business at the box office against a ₹30-crore budget in 2019. However, Anek failed to churn a decent amount at the box office.
