The start of Monday could not have been better for the musical genius, AR Rahman. The British Academy of Films and Television Arts (BAFTA), made him an ambassador for their new initiative. What is this initiative for though ?
Called as the “Breakthrough Initiative”, it will identify, support and celebrate up to five talents working in India. These talents will belong to Film, Games or TV sectors.
It is not something new for the BAFTA. Each year they look to support new talent and find them, alongside their award ceremonies. They are being supported by Netflix, this time in their initiative.
While AR Rahman is happy to be an ambassador of such a noble initiative. He was interviewed for the same, in which the legend said :
“I am looking forward to seeing the brilliant talent chosen from India to be showcased on a global stage.”
On the other hand, the BAFTA’s statement said that this will aid in enhancing the relationship between the British and Indian creatives.
The BAFTA’s chief executive, Amanda Berry OBE was grateful to see Rahman lending his support to them. She said that he shares the same passion as them.
Further she said-
“He is well positioned to support the initiative, with his broad spectrum of work drawing recognition across Hindi, Tamil and Telugu films, which will help BAFTA to appeal to a wide section of the industry.”
Meanwhile, the five talents will be chosen by a jury comprising of Indian and British experts. The participants are going to have a time of their life. They will get full access to every BAFTA event, mentoring, and a chance to build their network and skills.
AR Rahman is the perfect ambassador for the initiative and we are delighted to see this.
