Bajirao Mastani is coming back. No, the film is not re-releasing but is going to get adapted as a musical play for stage. The film’s musical play is being directed by Maitreyee Pahari, while Pandit Birju Maharaj is the creative director. Actor, Rajniesh Duggal will star as Bajirao.
In a statement about the play, Rajniesh said :
“I am extremely glad to have been trained under the guidance of Pandit Birju Maharaj ji for the musical. This is something I have never done before. While initially, the plan was to take it to different cities and countries there is a possibility that it will go online. The talks are still on.”
For the roles of Mastani and Kashibai, Famous Kathak dancers, Shailja Nalwade and Anusua Majumdar are selected. Further, to make the show a grand spectacle, the play will include 10 musical seqeuences, 50 dancers and 12 actors from all over the country.
As the film was known for its musical brilliance too, the play will feature 7 tracks from the film including the popular song ‘Malhari’.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s,Bajirao Mastani released in 2015 and starred Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. The film was a blockbuster and won the filmfare award for best film.
