All the plans of CW went into awry after their show ‘Batwoman’s’ leading actor Ruby Rose’s exit. Left with a choice to recast the role after her exit, the show has now taken a surprising decision. They will be using a new character instead of Kate Kane in order to portray Batwoman with a new actor in lead.

Since superheroes have alter egos in comics, this will not prove to be a tough task for the studio. According to a report from Deadline, the new character will be Ryan Wilder, in her mid-20’s. Season 2 which was expected to show Kate Kane’s story will now tell the story of Ryan Wilder as Batwoman.

There is no clarity yet, whether the new character exists in the DC universe or is a new creation. Ryan Wilder’s character is being described as likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed” and “nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her.” She will however continue to be a lesbian like Kate Kane.

The show which premiered last year, became the first superhero show in TV history to have a leading LGBTQ character.

Actress, Ruby Rose had announced her exit from show in May without stating any specific reasons. Sources speculated her unhappiness with the show as a reason.

The show’s first season’s production was cut short due to the Coronavirus which led to the show having 20 episodes. The decision to introduce a new character by CW is bold and how it pans out with fans will be seen in future.
