A still from Gone Kesh

2019 witnessed three films dealing with baldness and the first one out of these three was ‘Gone Kesh’ which dealt with the story of Enakshi (Shweta Tripathi) suffering from hair fall and her life taking a tragic turn after realizing that she’s diagnosed with alopecia, which will gradually lead to her complete hair loss. Right from her school days, what she loses here is her self-esteem. While everyone sees her as an odd one out, there are a few people who really care for her other than her parents and it’s all about that perspective which one of her classmates and later Srijoy (Jitendra Kaushik) sees and treats Enakshi from.

Though the film is cut short to the plot point, director Qasim Khallow beautifully describes the pot through a small city and from a middle-class family’s point of view which is where the true beauty of this film lies. Their small dreams, Enakshi’s passion for dance and her wanting to win a dance competition organized during the Durga Pooja. On the other hand, her parents dream of traveling to Delhi via plane. This small dream of theirs actually adds life to the film paralleling its main plot.

A still from Gone Kesh

Srijoy who’s in love with Enakshi and just visits her house casually for the first time only to find about her tragic condition and that scene is not where she herself admits her true identity. But his different perspective turns out to be a support system for her. Hence, it is all about perspective which not everyone might see but there are few people in our life too who outlook our disabilities be it anything. Though this film follows a very simpler line, it is officially the first Bollywood film to deal with baldness and spreading across the message of “Being You.”
