Cinema has many times depended on the form of literature in order to present stories from truth to fiction, adventures to science, romance to dramas, etc. Many of the movie buffs believe that cinema is a medium that brings life to the fine stories of the literature and their characters. To adapt a fine piece of literature and present it on-screens is not an easy job but an attempt will always be appreciated rather than depending on just remakes.

Bollywood has always relied on remakes of Regional or Hollywood movies but the audience is now bored with the same stream of content which made me question why can’t we use the beauty of our literature and some of its unique stories which can turn out to be a masterstroke in the Indian Cinema. A fine artwork based on Indian Mythology Mahabharata, this book by Shivaji Sawant follows the story of Karna, the underrated hero of the epic Mahabharata, his struggles of self-discovery being from a family of charioteer how life gives him various surprises that comes along with tons of hardships. The story of a tragic hero who needs to be known to everyone. This novel was adapted for a Television series for Doordarshan but if it is made for the big screens, it could be a treat to the audience who loves history and mythology. And this adaptation if executed perfectly could turn out as a masterpiece.

The Chronicles of Corpse Bearer

The Chronicles of Corpse Bearer

This novel by Cyrus Mistry sheds a light on a nearly invisible Parsi community that resides in India for a very long time. This mystery book highlights another small community of the Parsi Corpse Bearers and the taboo relating to them in their own community. It follows the story when a Parsi priest’s son falls in love with a corpse bearer’s daughter. I wonder if this ever gets made into a film it will definitely be loved by mystery genre fans all over the world.

The Death of Vishnu

The Death of Vishnu

The story of an aging alcoholic houseboy who’s on the line of death ends up at a middle-class apartment in Mumbai. In a narrative format, the story includes several other stories that go within that apartment. This book can turn out to be a great drama on-screens as Vishnu reminisces the past of his life, a beautifully written film that can be a great piece of a flick.
