A still from Bhonsle

The Manoj Bajpayee starrer Bhonsle released today and once again we can say that Manoj Bajpayee has won our hearts but this time as a silent protagonist who stands against the wrong happenings of the society. The story revolves around a retired cop, Ganpat Bhonsle (Manoj Bajpayee) who is bounded with few people of his community who, just for the sake of getting political benefits are trying to get rid of migrants from the state. However, Bhonsle forms a bond with a North Indian family and situations lead them to struggle and deal with the current scenario and how Bhonsle turns out to be strong support for them.

A still from Bhonsle

The film Bhonsle is slow but hits well in the long run. Devashish Makhija’s direction and each shot keep us engaged in the plot and it definitely creates a tone for the subject which is being dealt with. If one has to create a strong and power-packed performance that too using very few dialogues then no one can do it better than Bajpayee and he clearly proves it in this film. Apart from Bajpayee, the supporting cast including Santosh Juvekar as Vilas, Ipshita Chakraborty Singh as Sita, and Virat Vaibhav as Lalu also do a great job.

Jigmet Wangchuk’s cinematography adds beauty to this film as every shot and transition has a say to the story. The characters really make us feel heartwarming with their portrayals. The story proceeds at a slow pace and also feels stretched at a time but Bajpayee’s surreal performance fills it up.

Overall, the film is high on concept and performances. Bhonsle ends a long time debate with the theme of Humanity and Kindness.

A must watch, available on Sony Liv.
