Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior has performed quite well on the first day of its release. The film has collected Rs 15.10 crore at the domestic box office on Friday. The film saw a surge in business in the afternoon and evening shows.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the figures of the film on his verified Twitter page and wrote, “Tanhaji exceeds expectations and posts healthy total on Day 1… Biz grew rapidly from post-noon onwards… Excellent in #Maharashtra [#Mumbai, parts of #CP and #Nizam circuits]… Glowing word of mouth should ensure solid growth on Day 2 and 3… Fri ₹ 15.10 cr.”

According to a report on Box Office India, the film’s performance is good but less than earlier estimates. The collections in Maharashtra are very good but the business in North and East needs to improve to bring an overall good collection. Tanhaji has quite a good number of screens. It was released on 3880 screens, including 2D and 3D formats and Hindi and Marathi versions, in India. The overseas screen count is 660 bringing the worldwide total figure to 4540 screens.

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is based on the life of Tanaji Malusare who was celebrated for his role in the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670 AD. He was a military leader in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj of the Maratha Empire.

Ajay Devgn plays the titular role of Tanhaji whereas Saif Ali Khan portrays the character of Udaybhan Rathod and Kajol plays the role of Tanaji’s wife Savitri Malusare.

Directed by Om Raut and produced by Ajay Devgn, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior was released on 10 January 2020.
