Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior has performed quite well on its first weekend. After witnessing a promising opening on the first day of its release, the film saw a surge in its collection over the weekend and managed to collect Rs 61.75 crore at the domestic box office.

The film, which collected Rs 15.10 crore on Friday, saw a growth in its business on Saturday and minted Rs 20.57 crore. It further saw a jump in the collection and minted Rs 26.08 crore on Sunday putting the total three day collection at Rs 61.75 crore.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the figures of the film on his verified Twitter page and wrote, “Tanhaji has a heroic weekend… Footfalls, occupancy, numbers multiply on Day 2 and 3… Sets BO on fire on Day 3… Maharashtra is exceptional… Other circuits witness big turnaround on Day 2 and 3… Fri 15.10 cr, Sat 20.57 cr, Sun 26.08 cr. Total: ₹ 61.75 cr.”

According to a report on Box Office India, the performance of the film is very similar to 2015 film Bajirao Mastani in the sense that Maharashtra is strong from day one and other areas are coming on board slowly. The difference will be that Bajirao Mastani had that Christmas and New Year period for areas outside Maharashtra to slowly get the numbers which is not the case here. So here the film could do similar or even beat that film in Maharashtra but other areas will be harder.

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is based on the life of Tanaji Malusare who was celebrated for his role in the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670 AD. He was a military leader in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj of the Maratha Empire.

Ajay Devgn plays the titular role of Tanhaji whereas Saif Ali Khan portrays the character of Udaybhan Rathod and Kajol plays the role of Tanaji’s wife Savitri Malusare.

Directed by Om Raut and produced by Ajay Devgn, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior was released on 10 January 2020.
