Hollywood actor Brad Pitt will be honored with the Maltin Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter

The fest announced on Monday (16th December) that Pitt will be awarded on 22 January at Santa Barbara’s historic Arlington Theatre as part of the festival’s 35th edition. It will run from 15 to 25 January, 2020.

The Maltin Modern Master Award is the festival’s highest honour named after film critic Leonard Maltin, who has been its moderator from the beginning of the festival. It was started in 1995 to celebrate “an individual who has enriched our culture through his/her multifaceted accomplishments in the motion picture industry.”

In the past, people like Gary Oldman, Christopher Nolan, Denzel Washington, Johnny Depp and Cate Blanchett have been bestowed with the award.

Pitt was recently seen playing an astronaut in James Grey’s science fiction flick Ad Astra. It received positive critical feedback but under performed at the box-office.

His earlier release was Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, where his role as a fictional stuntman is widely considered to be a strong contender for Oscar’s Best Supporting Actor.

“Brad Pitt wears the mantle of movie star with good grace,” Maltin said in a statement. ” After the one-two punch of Ad Astra and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, this year he’s an ideal choice to be presented the Maltin Modern Master Award.”
