We recently reported that actor Siddhant Chaturvedi, who received appreciation for playing MC Sher in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy earlier this year, and debutante Sharvari would star in the upcoming film Bunty Aur Babli 2. Now we have learnt that actors Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan have also come on board for this Yash Raj production venture. While unconfirmed reports of the two being in the film were doing the rounds on the internet, the official announcement has been made today on the verified Twitter page of Yash Raj Films that they indeed are a part of the film.

Bunty Aur Babli 2 is the sequel of Shaad Ali directorial of the same name that came out in 2005 and emerged as one of the highest grossing films of the year. The film starred Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead.

While Rani is back with Saif as the new member in the franchise, Abhishek is missing. “Abhishek and I were both approached to reprise our roles as the originals in Bunty Aur Babli 2 but, unfortunately, things didn’t work out with him and we will miss him dearly,” she said in a statement as reported by the Hindustan Times

She further added, “As a team, we are so happy to welcome Saif. I have lovely memories of working with him and I’m really looking forward to creating something new and exciting with him in Bunty Aur Babli 2. Hopefully, the audience will give us the same love that they have given our earlier films.”

The sequel, which will see a time leap of 16 years and will feature two pairs of Bunty and Babli, has already gone on the floors. “It’s a completely rebooted sequel and is set in today’s time. It is a fantastic script that hooked me instantly. It is an out-and-out entertainer for the entire family to sit and enjoy and this is what I loved and connected with,” Saif told the publication.

Bunty Aur Babli 2 is written and will also be directed by Varun Sharma who has worked as an assistant director in films like Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai which were also backed by YRF.
