Though the industry is often misconstrued as just acting, directing, producing and script writing, it bestows a vast and exciting range of career options.

Job Roles In Entertainment & Media

Below is the list of the popular job roles one can opt to pursue his career in the entertainment industry.

1. Cinematographer

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Film, Production or a similar discipline

Popularly known as the director of photography (DP), a cinematographer determines the overall visual style of the project and ensures that the lighting, camera placement, and composition of each shot support the director’s vision. 

2. Entertainment Lawyer

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Law > LSAT Exam

An entertainment lawyer is a legal professional who specializes in legal issues related to the entertainment industry. Entertainment lawyers provide legal advice and representation to clients in the entertainment industry, including actors, musicians, filmmakers, producers, and other creative professionals. 

3. Video Jockey

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication & Journalism

A video jockey (VJ) is a professional who presents and introduces music videos on television or in other media. Video jockeys are similar to disc jockeys (DJs), but instead of playing music, they introduce and provide commentary on music videos.

In addition to introducing music videos, video jockeys may also conduct interviews with artists and provide behind-the-scenes commentary on music video production.

4. Public Relations (PR) Manager

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree/ Expertise in Public Relations or Marketing

A PR manager in the entertainment industry is responsible for managing the public image and reputation of production companies, artists, and celebrities. They work closely with the marketing and social media teams to develop and implement strategies to promote their clients and manage their reputation.

Qualification: No requirement/ Eligibility: a natural talent for voice acting 

Voice-over artists are an integral part of the entertainment industry, providing the voice for characters in animated films and TV shows, video games, commercials, documentaries, and other media. A voice-over artist uses their voice to convey emotions, create characters, and bring scripts to life.

6. Singer/Vocalist

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in music courses

Vocalists are artists who use their voices to sing and perform music in the entertainment industry. They may perform as solo artists, in bands, or as backup singers. Vocalists may perform in a variety of genres, including pop, rock, country, hip-hop, and classical music.

Vocalists may be signed to a record label, perform at live music venues, or work as session singers in recording studios.

7. Sound Editor

Qualification: Degree of Certification in sound design, or any relevant field

Sound editors are professionals who work in the entertainment industry and are responsible for editing and mixing audio for films, TV shows, video games, and other media. They work closely with directors, producers, and other members of the creative team to ensure that the sound design of a project is of high quality and meets the creative vision of the project.

8. Choreographer

Qualification: Formal Education/ High level of dance training 

Choreographers are professionals in the entertainment industry who create and design dance routines for various productions, including films, TV shows, music videos, stage productions, and live events.

To become a choreographer, one typically needs to have a background in dance, including formal training and experience performing. 

9. Animator

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Animation or a relevant field

An animator in the entertainment industry is responsible for bringing characters and objects to life through the use of computer-generated imagery (CGI) or traditional hand-drawn techniques. Animators can work on a variety of projects, including feature films, television shows, video games, and commercials.

The role of an animator is to create movement and emotion in characters and objects, making them appear lifelike and believable.

10. Costume Designer

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel, Costume or Fashion Design

A costume designer is a professional in the entertainment industry who is responsible for designing and creating costumes for films, TV shows, theatre productions, and other media. The role includes fabric selection, costume designing and creation for celebrities. Experience in costume-making, pattern-making, and sewing is an important aspect of the work.

Overall, the industry provides employment and revenue generation and is considered a boon to the economy. It is a dynamic and exciting field offering numerous career opportunities for those with talent and passion.
